How old could alien civilizations be?

By Space with Sarah, 17th May 2017 in Astrobiology

The Earth and our Solar System are around 4.6 billion years old, however the Universe is a lot older, it's around 13.8 billion years old! That begs the question: could there be other solar systems out there which are a lot older than our own?

Could life have formed a lot earlier than here on Earth? How intelligent might these alien civilizations be?

In this video, astrophysicist, Sarah, explains how stars need to explode and spread their elements into space before we can form planets like Earth. She also discusses what other solar systems need in order to resemble our own Earth and have conditions for life to start.
